Save the Date: APWA’s Annual Interfaith Iftar

4 Apr

We are American Palestinian women who give voice to Palestinian women. Since inception, we have dedicated every dollar we raise to help Palestinian children as well as American children in our midst such as the homeless youth and the children of the Navajo people. Throughout, our aim is to raise awareness about the plight of the Palestinian people and those in need at home. This year our Interfaith Iftar event will focus on the predicament of the Palestinian children refugees. It is our Hope you will attend our May 5th interfaith Iftar event.

Happy Easter

3 Apr

This Easter, Palestinian Christians honor Jesus who was born in Bethlehem and sacrificed himself for the oppressed, sick, injured, imprisoned, and poor. They will draw comfort from the words he said of those who like them (Luke 6) struggle under considerable hardships to protect their families, children, life, and livelihood, and work to achieve justice and peace.

“Blessed are they that mourn for they shall be
  comforted.
Blessed are you when people hate you, when they
exclude you, insult you and reject your name as evil
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after
righteousness for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called
  sons of God.
Blessed are they that have been persecuted for
righteousness'sake for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”
  (Luke 6).
Happy Easter to one and All!

American Palestinian Women’s Association believes in our young DREAMers

29 Sep

We call President Trump and Congress to commit to the continuation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program, which was established by the Obama Administration via executive order in 2012.

DACA allows young migrant immigrants who entered the country without documents to receive two-years period of deferred action from deportation and the eligibility for work permits. We call on President Trump and Congress to uphold and protect the basic human rights of DACA recipients and their families.

Targeting DACA recipients and other immigrant communities will devastate the lives of thousands of young people and their families, and unnerve the entire immigrant community across our nation.

daca-green-card

We believe in our DREAMers and call President Trump and Congress to protect them, their families, and other immigrant communities who have meaningfully contributed to our society. Doing otherwise would not improve our national security,  but would painfully separate young people from their families, and traumatize their communities.

These young DREAMers have positively contributed to our communities and country and deserve our collective support. We urge the Trump Administration and Congress to come together and pass bipartisan legislation to allow them to remain in the United States.

Standing with Our Jewish Sisters Against Anti-Semitism, Bigotry and Hate

12 Dec

Like other Americans of conscience, we are alarmed by the recent rise of unfiltered offensive rhetoric against fellow Americans that is threatening our core American values and the safety of our children.

screen-shot-2016-12-11-at-11-06-28-pm

In the wake of the recent xenophobic wave that has been articulated and observed during and after the US presidential election, many of our Jewish sisters are legitimately anxious and worried about the recent rise in anti-Semitism. While Americans of Palestinian and Arab decent are Semites too, our community is concerned about the Jewish directed anti-Semitic rhetoric.

Our shared Semitic roots and values compel us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Jewish sisters to protect the dignity of our children and defend their right to live free of fear, anxiety, and stress. To that end, APWA denounces and rejects all forms and expressions of anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, Afrophobia, xenophobia, homophobia, misogyny, racism, and bigotry.

On Behalf of APWA, We Extend our Deepest Sympathies to the Qubain Family

17 Apr

Dear APWA members and friends,

We at American Palestinian Women’s Association are truly sorry to hear of the loss of Dr. Fahmi Qubain the founder of the Hope Fund: http://www.thehopefund.org/Dr_Qubain.html

On behalf of all of us at APWA, we extend our deepest sympathies to Helen and the Qubain family as they struggle through this period of grief. Dr. Qubain was a valuable asset to our community, and we along with them mourn his loss.

Dr. Qubain passed but his legacy will continue with the immanent success of the 35 Hope Fund students and scholars Dr. Qubain invested more than a decade in pursuit of offering them the best available education. Whether raised in the refugee camps of Lebanon, Syria,  Jordan or  the West Bank. East Jerusalem or Gaza- these promising future Palestinian doctors, lawyers, scientists, politicians and educators bode to be effective contributors of Palestinian society.

We know you will find support in your family, your friends, and the Hope Fund students who have been recipient of Dr. Qubain’s tireless work, boundless faith and commitment.

We are here to help in any way we can, and we hope you can count on us in these difficult times as we promise to continue our commitment to the Hope Fund- as we had done in the past.

Accordingly, in memory of Dr. Qubain and his diligent work to improve the future prospect of young Palestinians we will send the Hope Fund a check on behalf of APWA members. We also encourage APWA members and friends to support the Hope Fund  and the good work of both Dr. Qubain and his daughter Helen by directly contributing to the Hope Fund: http://www.thehopefund.org/

Sincerely,

American Palestinian Women’s Association

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

24 Dec

Dear APWA Friends and Supporters:

As we approach the end of 2011, the American Palestinian Women’s Association(APWA) would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and offers its best wishes for the New Year!

In the upcoming year, as APWA has done for more than seven years, we  remain committed to serving our community, advancing the interests of American Palestinian women and their families, and celebrating our cultural heritage.

APWA thanks you for your continued support of its mission and objectives; we could not continue without your support. This year alone  your generous  support has allowed us to provide scholarship funds to Palestinians students from Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon attending colleges here in the the US; and offer substantial support to local initiatives that promote and highlight the contributions of American Palestinian and American Arab women. Thank you!

As you consider year-end charitable contributions, think of  APWA–all donations to APWA are 100% tax-deductible.
